At Waitākere Cricket Club, we believe women and girls' cricket is central to the future of our club. We are committed to creating an environment where every female player feels welcomed, supported, challenged, and inspired to achieve her potential.
Over the past two seasons, our fledgling female programme has grown rapidly through the dedication of volunteers, strong community partnerships, and a shared belief that every girl who picks up a bat deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Our Coaching & Pathway Philosophy
Our vision is to build more than successful cricket teams—we are creating a lifelong pathway for women and girls to enjoy, develop, and excel in cricket.
We believe every female player deserves access to quality coaching, positive role models, and an environment where they feel valued and supported. Our focus is on developing confident people as well as capable cricketers, encouraging every player to enjoy the game, challenge themselves, and reach their own potential.
We are building a programme where girls begin their cricket journey with confidence, young women continue to develop through meaningful opportunities, and senior players inspire the next generation. Through strong coaching, an inclusive culture, and genuine community connection, we aim to create a programme that reflects the values of pride, strength, opportunity, and belonging for every female cricketer.
Our Progress
The 2025/2026 season marked another significant step forward for women's and girls' cricket at Waitākere.
- Our Women's Development team successfully transitioned from 9-a-side to full 11-a-side cricket, with every match played on grass wickets.
- We fielded our first-ever Under 16 Girls team, representing a historic milestone for the club.
- We introduced a new Under 13 Girls team, doubling the number of girls participating in cricket at Waitākere.
- Our volunteer coaching team was recognised with the Auckland Cricket Association Community Coaching Award for the 2025/2026 season, acknowledging their outstanding contribution to developing young female cricketers.
These achievements reflect the passion of our volunteers and the growing enthusiasm for women's cricket throughout our community.
Rutherford College Partnership
Our partnership with Rutherford College reflects our belief that cricket has the power to positively shape the lives of young women well beyond the boundary rope.
Together, we are creating opportunities for girls to represent their school with pride, compete against some of Auckland's largest and most established schools, and excel in a truly global sport. Through cricket, students are developing not only their skills on the field, but also confidence, resilience, leadership, teamwork, and a belief in what they are capable of achieving.
For many students, wearing the Rutherford colours on the cricket field becomes much more than simply playing a game. It is an opportunity to contribute to their school community, build lifelong friendships, and experience the pride that comes from working together towards a common goal. Success is measured not only in wins and losses, but in the confidence gained, the sense of belonging created, and the young women who discover new opportunities through sport.
We believe every girl should have the opportunity to experience these benefits.
