Junior Grades

Training commences mid October.

These are our Junior hardball grades. A player’s age group is determined by their age as of April 1st of the year in which the new playing season begins.

For example, to play in the Under-10 age group in the upcoming season, the player must be under 10 years old on April 1st of of this year.

It is expected that players in these grades provide their own personal cricket gear and purchase a club playing shirt. The club can also provide some playing gear if required on a loan basis. The club provides all team training and game day equipment.

Action Grade & Beginners

Training commences mid October.

These are our Junior softball grades.

Action Grade and Little Legends are our in-house run programs. They are run from the club on Thursday and Friday evenings. They are a fun, fully inclusive and very social environment for both players and parents.

Thursdays (from 5pm) - Action Grade teams training and Little Legends sessions
Fridays (from 4:30pm) - Action Grade games

The club provides all playing equipment for Action grade, however, players can bring their own bat if they want to. Wearing a club shirt is not mandatory (but encouraged).

For Little Legends, the club provides all equipment and a club shirt is not required.

SPECIAL PROGRAM

Hard Ball Skills Development

We are pleased to announce our Hard Ball Cricket Skills Development Program, designed to help young cricketers develop their technical skills, game awareness, and confidence in a supportive training environment.

Program Dates

Monday 12 October to Monday 7 December
9-week schedule, including one potential rain make-up day
8 weeks of coaching sessions

Ages 10-11: 4:00pm to 5:30pm
Ages 12-13: 5:30pm to 7:00pm

Program Delivery

The program will be run by Waitākere Cricket Club Youth Development Coach, Prasansana Jayamanne (PJ).

Program Objectives

Through a combination of skill-based coaching, drills and game-specific training, the academy aims to:

Develop strong and effective batting, bowling and fielding fundamentals.
Improve speed, agility, balance and coordination.
Build cricket-specific fitness and endurance.
Develop safe and effective movement patterns.
Improve batting, bowling and fielding technique, consistency and accuracy.
Develop players’ confidence and competitiveness.
Help players understand the importance of athletic preparation for cricket.
Create a pathway for players who want to develop beyond normal team training.

This program is ideal for players looking to further develop their hard ball cricket skills through structured coaching, skill development activities, and game-based learning.

Cost is $120 per participant

Places are limited and registrations close on 5 October, so we encourage families to register early to secure a spot.

Fees Policy

Payment & Registration

Full payment at the time of registration is preferred.
PlayHQ’s payment instalments option is available during registration to help make fees more manageable. It allows players (Senior and Junior hardball only) to register with an initial deposit, with the remaining balance scheduled to be automatically charged monthly up until January 28.
A strict "No Pay – No Play" policy applies: players must be fully paid or on an instalment plan before taking the field.
All outstanding fees for pre-season activities (such as training sessions, academies or camps) must also be paid in full prior to taking the field. These are in addition to standard registration fees.
The due date for full payment is October 1st, unless the player is on an instalment plan or registers after that date, in which case full payment is required at time of registration.

Financial Support & Payment Instalments

PlayHQ's payment instalment option allows registration fees to be spread evenly over several months and is expected to meet the needs of most families. For more details about paying by instalments, click here

If you have exceptional circumstances that mean the instalment option is still not suitable, please contact the Club Manager before registering. We will consider requests on a case-by-case basis.

Student Rates

Student rates are available for:

Secondary School Students / School Leavers
Tertiary Students (University, Polytechnic, etc.)

A valid student ID must be presented upon request. Final eligibility will be confirmed by the Club Manager.

Note: Apprentices are classified as adults and are not eligible for the student rate.

Family Discounts

A 20% family discount will be automatically applied to each additional junior hardball player registered under the same PlayHQ parent account.

If you have a unique family situation you'd like us to consider, please contact the Club Manager to discuss options.

Team Registrations (One Day and Social Grades)

If you are entering a full team into a One Day or Social Grade, please contact the Club Manager before registering. Team organisers are responsible for ensuring all player registrations and payments are submitted on time.

Refund Policy

Refunds after the season has started may be available depending on the circumstances. All refund requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis, and an administration fee of $25 will apply.

Refund requests before the season has started will be processed without charge.
